What Is Watts to Amps?
Power is the rate at which electrical energy is converted or consumed, and for a direct-current circuit it is the product of voltage and current. Rearranging P = VI gives the current as the power divided by the supply voltage.
This conversion is used constantly when working with batteries, solar panels, and DC power supplies: knowing a device's wattage and the system voltage lets you compute how many amps it draws, which decides fuse ratings, wire sizes, and how long a battery will run it.
Formula
Applications
- Determining how many amps an appliance draws from a battery bank
- Sizing solar-panel wiring and charge-controller ratings
- Selecting fuses and circuit breakers for a DC circuit
- Checking the current capability needed from a power supply
- Estimating run time for a load on a known battery capacity
